Men's straight-cut shirt. It has a stand-up collar and a front opening with a button closure. The collar, placket, and cuffs are adorned with hand embroidery.
We have selected coarse-woven natural linen for this vyshyvanka model. This fabric closely resembles the handwoven fabrics on which shirts were embroidered in the first half of the 20th century.
The intricate embroidery is done by hand using woolen threads. The use of woolen threads was characteristic of western regions and mountainous areas where sheep were traditionally raised. There is a theory that in southern Ternopil, a breed of black sheep was raised, and their wool was used for embroidery threads, hence the prevalence of black color in local traditional shirts. This color was considered a symbol of land, wealth, and fertility.
The pattern was developed by the embroiderers in our workshop based on antique shirts.
