Koza Dereza did not begin with a business plan. It began with love — for handwork, for Ukrainian ornament, for the feeling of a thing made slowly and with care. From a desire to show the world a genuine, fascinating and diverse Ukraine that goes beyond ordinary, mass-produced goods.
Since 2008 we have continually sought out the old traditions of Ukrainian families and reinterpreted them in our products, adding a contemporary approach.
How did it all begin? With a love of handwork and Ukrainian beauty
It all started with a question: “What do we, as a culture, bring to the world?” Plastic wreaths and vodka, or the remnants of imperial symbols?
In search of an answer, the founders of Koza Dereza — the married couple Viktoriya and Yaroslav Kolodiy — decided to create a brand to be proud of not only in Ukraine but also abroad.
Handmade souvenirs became the core of a product line that later expanded to clothing and jewellery, so that customers could create a complete Ukrainian look. Not only the home, but the people in it — united by traditions and the painstaking work of our craftspeople.
Today Koza Dereza is a living workshop in Ternopil, shops in Ternopil and Lviv, and pieces that have already found their owners in 32 countries.
But the essence has stayed the same from day one:

Our mission is to keep Ukrainian craft alive and relevant today. Not to hide tradition in the past, but to weave it into modern life: into the home, the look, the celebration, the gift, the family memory.
How each piece is born
Every piece passes through a craftsperson's hands from the first step to the last. We study ancient ornaments, revive the techniques our grandmothers used — and reimagine them for today. We do not copy the past; we continue it.
The materials are natural. The approach is attentive. The pace is deliberately slow.

Handwork is not a format, it's a stance
We deliberately choose unique production. It takes more time, attention and skill, but handmade things carry an entirely different meaning.
Ukrainian tradition is living, not a museum piece
We don't preserve culture under glass. We wear it, give it, decorate the tree with it, take it abroad and pass it from generation to generation. Ornament is not decoration. It is a language.
An eco approach — from material to packaging
Our products are certified by the “Living Planet” organisation — free of harmful materials in textiles and wood. This isn't marketing. It's responsibility.
Every piece has its owner
We don't make things “for everyone.” Each piece waits for its person — the one who will feel something of their own in it.
We are known far beyond Ternopil
Our products are present in 32 countries. We have taken part in international trade fairs — Christmasworld, Maison & Objet, Top Drawer — and returned with a new understanding: Ukrainian craft has something to say to the world.
But the most precious recognition isn't awards. It's when soldiers order our shirts for special occasions. When Ukrainians from frontline regions order souvenirs with hope for the future. It's when a customer from Canada writes that they've placed an angel from Ternopil on their tree for the fourth year running.

Koza Dereza is a family. From the founders to their children and those who joined the team quite recently. Everyone in the workshop is on fire with the idea, in love with the product and striving for perfection. Craftspeople who know every stitch. Artists who paint ornaments by hand.
