Christmas Spider “Wreath”

Description Christmas Spider “Wreath”

A New Creation by Koza Dereza — a Christmas Spider in the Modern Form of a Wreath

Without losing its traditional meaning and symbolism, this wreath can adorn your home, door, or table.

The Christmas spider is a traditional, lightweight straw ornament for the home. Its geometric shape symbolizes the harmony and order of the universe — something the modern world often lacks. Straw connects us to the earth, the ground we stand on and to which we owe so much. Making a spider is a family activity that reminds us of what matters most. Every element of this ornament is connected to our history and traditions.

Traditionally, the spider was suspended from the ceiling, where warm air currents allowed it to spin gently. After the winter holidays, it was not put away. Instead, throughout the year, it was decorated with elements representing other celebrations — pysanky (Ukrainian Easter eggs) for Easter or herbs for Green Holidays (Pentecost).

The Christmas spider by Koza Dereza brings warmth and coziness to Ukrainian homes, reminding us of the continuity of our history and the enduring strength of our traditions.
