Christmas Spider “Verkhovyna”

Description Christmas Spider “Verkhovyna”

A new creation by Koza Dereza — the “Verkhovyna” Christmas Spider is larger than the traditional design. Its triangular shape evokes the snow-covered Carpathian Mountains.

The Christmas Spider is a traditional, lightweight straw ornament for the home. Its geometric shape symbolizes harmony and the order of the universe — things that are often missing from the modern world. Straw connects us to the earth beneath our feet, the earth we depend on and owe so much to. Making a Christmas Spider is a family activity that reminds us of what matters most. Every element of this ornament is rooted in our history and traditions.

Traditionally, the ornament was hung from the ceiling, where rising warm air could set it spinning. After the winter holidays, the spider was not taken down. Instead, it was decorated throughout the year with elements associated with other celebrations — pysanky (traditional Ukrainian Easter eggs) for Easter or herbs for Green Holidays, also known as Pentecost.

The Koza Dereza Christmas Spider will bring warmth and coziness to Ukrainian homes, serving as a reminder of the continuity of our history and the enduring strength of our traditions.
