European Christmas Classics

European Christmas Classics

Unique art toys from these collections are not just Christmas tree decorations that fantastically fit our ideas about favourite winter family celebrations. Sculpture vintage toys “European Christmas Classics” are the examples of small statuary that has both emotional and artistic-ethnographic value. These holiday tiny sculptures are created by Ternopil craftsmen according to pre-revolution technology of the late 19th – early 20th century. But they don’t make a secret of the creation process. They take ecologically clean materials: wood shaving and shredding, buckwheat husks, milled paper, mixed glue on the basis of flour paste. All the ingredients are doughed carefully and then the future carolers and bears, Gerda and the Snow Queen, the Nutcracker and the Mouse King are made. The toys similarly to biscuits are baked in specially made forms in ovens becoming solid and remaining light. Moreover, the process of decoration of Christmas tree with the help of our works can be trusted to children because they don’t break; thus there won’t be tears because of the cuts or favourite broken decoration. After polishing and soaking in earth, the fairy begins: the artists’ brushes animate the small figures with the help of bright pearl Italian paints and their imagination. The toy eyes begin to wink, smiles bring smiles in return and nice presents and lights that glow in darkness in the tiny hands and paws turn all the people into children – nice girls and naughty boys who truly believe in holiday charm of the family celebrations, magical importance of beautiful trifles and great responsibility in choosing the decorations for the New Year tree. It was like that a hundred years ago and still is.
